William "Bill" Walter Dondlinger

William “Bill” Walter Dondlinger, 87, passed away January 20, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center.

Bill was born January 2, 1938 in Des Moines to Richard and Elvira (Pontious) Dondlinger. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. When Bill was 23, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Baldwin. They were married two years later and built a beautiful life and family together. Summer vacations were spent camping with family and friends. Bill also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was deeply proud of his four grandsons and took great care to instill in them the true meaning of hard work and family values. He also loved sharing stories with them. Bill adored his great-grandchildren and they loved their “Big Papa” as they fondly referred to him. He retired from EFCO where he had been a welder for over 30 years. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Dondlinger; daughter, Mary Ann (Rob) Jeffries; siblings, Richard (Phyllis) Dondlinger; Katherine Kroll and Ruthie Lane; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Kathy Dondlinger-Weigel; son, William James Dondlinger; brothers-in-law, Carl Lane and Bob Kroll; and other loving family and friends.

The family will greet friends Monday, January 27, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Bill will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
