William Diehl

William Wesley Diehl, 78, passed away on September 23, 2023 at his home. He was born on March 9, 1945 to Donald and Bernadine (Martin) Diehl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Bill was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. He was a proud member for 55 years of Local 33 Plumbers and Steam Fitters. Bill was state side during the Vietnam era where he worked as a jet engine mechanic for the Airforce. After retiring, Bill and Trudy would love to go driving and meandering the back roads of Iowa. They found many fun and interesting mom and pop restaurants to stop at along the way, some if not most, were revisited. In retirement, Bill and Trudy loved “making memories” with family and friends. Bill loved the outdoors, from camping to fishing. Above all else, Bill loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and often made mention of loving his “in-law” children just as much.

Bill is survived by his son, Joel (Melinda) Diehl of Oregon; daughter, Heather (Buddy) Hoffman of Mitchellville, IA; brother, David Diehl of California; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life of 55 years, his wife, Trudy.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet guests one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
