Wayne H. Patchin, 82, passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The son of Carl Henry and Edith L. (Rush) Patchin he was born on November 30, 1942 in Butler, Missouri. On November 23, 1966 he married Carla Ann Schroeder, who preceded him in death on January 8, 1975. Three sons were born to this marriage. On June 11, 1977 he married Judith Kay LeMaster, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2025. One son was born to this marriage. Wayne considered himself very blessed to have found love twice in his life.
Wayne graduated from Miami R-1 High School and went on to earn a B.S in Business from the University of Kansas. Post-graduation, Wayne began working for John Deere Corporation in Moline, IL as a Systems Analyst. During this time, he went on to earn his Master’s in Business Administration from St. Augustine College. As he raised his family in Illinois, KU remained near and dear to Wayne. He and his sons enjoyed cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks. In addition to cheering on the Jayhawks, Wayne was an avid cyclist and enjoyed bike tours around the Mid-West. Following his retirement from John Deere, he and Judy enjoyed traveling with friends and family. They visited all 50 states, much of the world, and six continents. He enjoyed taking photos during his world travels. For many years Wayne traveled to Canada on an annual fishing trip with his brother-in-law, sons, nephew and grandson.
Wayne enjoyed helping others and was dedicated to that mission in all aspects of his life. As an active member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Wayne served in various leadership and ministry roles at First Christian Church in Moline, Altoona Christian Church, and Ankeny Christian Church. He engaged with youth and adults as a Sunday School teacher, served as a church Elder and member of the board in addition to leading and participating in many Bible Studies. Wayne volunteered within his community with organizations such as SCORE that assists entrepreneurs to start or grow their business through mentoring and education. Wayne’s servant leadership highlights his passion for always finding ways to help others.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Christopher; and sister Elaine (Carl) Hoffman.
Wayne is survived by his sons; John (Trisha) Patchin, Jeffrey (Kristen) Patchin, and Douglas (Jennifer) Patchin. He was immensely proud of his grandchildren; Danielle Turner, Stevie (Tyler) Ziem, Scott Patchin, Sophia and Eliza Patchin, and Drew and Tyler Patchin, as well as great-grandchildren, Beckett and Raena Ziem.
Family will greet guests on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., at Ankeny Christian Church, 2506 SW 3rd Street Place, Ankeny, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m., at the church.
