Wayne Curnes

Wayne Eldon Curnes, 88, died on October 1, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren’s love in his last few hours and left with a peaceful heart. Wayne was born September 25, 1936, son of Harley and Bessie Christenson Curnes.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; son, Gerald Curnes; daughter, Deborah Curnes; brother, Russell Curnes; grandson, Justin Curnes; and great-granddaughter, Remi Palmquist.

He is survived by his children, Michele Nowak (Kevin) of Des Moines, Terry Curnes (Mary) of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Sharrie Steele (Mark) of Runnells and Carrie Curnes of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Cory Doss (Tracey), Terra Palmquist (Ryan), Tyler Curnes (Catie) and Ethan Curnes; great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Gabriella and Everett Doss and Breckin, Piper and Rigby Palmquist.

Wayne retired from AE Dairy at age 50 and registered at DMACC to become a certified tool and die maker. He retired 15 years later from Par Manufacturing where he worked as a tool and die maker. Wayne was an accomplished watercolor artist with his art displayed in various galleries. He loved traveling the world, biking, hiking and spending time with family.

The family will greet friends Monday, October 14, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Time of Sharing at 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private family scattering will be held at Glendale Cemetery.
