Vernon "Joe" Soloman Sr.

Vernon “Joe” Soloman Sr., 85, passed away on April 2, 2024, at home, surround by his loving family. He was born on August 25, 1938, in Des Moines to Navy and Hazel (Frasier) Soloman.

Joe served in the US Marine Corps. On June 22, 1957, he married Sally Nutt. Joe worked for the State of Iowa as a truck driver for the DOT for many years. He and Sally moved to Colorado where he worked as a maintenance man for Heather Ridge Apartments. After 10 years they returned to Des Moines and Joe went to work for his brother-in-law at Nutt Appliance.

Joe enjoyed playing pool, watching football and fishing. He was a member of Alathea Baptist Church.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sally Soloman; children, Jodi (Bob) Oltrogge; Teresa (Ron) Bieghler; Vernon Joe Soloman Jr. and Debbie Jo Soloman; sister, Joyce Butler; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his in-laws, Deliah Richardson, Carol Kimble, Clarence Nutt and Karen Nutt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Norma Pagett, Janet Nutt, Beverly Mickle and Jerry Soloman; grandson, Ronnie Bieghler; and great-granddaughter, Bailey Rae Oltrogge.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Avon Cemetery.
