Vera Head, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. She was born the daughter of Melvin and Louise (Suess) Wagner on June 16, 1935 in Richmond, Kansas.

Vera was married to Harrison on July 27, 1958, and they shared a wonderful life together. Vera was immensely proud of her rural upbringing and cherished her childhood on the farm. She had a green thumb and grew all her own vegetables in her garden, which she often used for her canning projects.

Vera was a woman of many talents. She enjoyed embroidery, cake decorating, and was an exceptional cook. She also sewed clothes for her family. Vera always had hot treats ready for her children when they came home from school, a testament to her love and care for her family. She was very family-oriented and took great pride in taking care of her loved ones.

Known for her organizational skills, Vera had a special way of packing the car for family vacations and was very specific about what needed to be done before the kids could go play. Her meticulous nature and dedication to her family will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children Susan (John) Cramer, Deborah (Maurice) Gadlin, and Brian (Ann) Head, six grandchildren, and her two great grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, son Edward Harley Head, and her beloved husband Harrison Head.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Vera will be laid to rest this spring next to her husband in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Warren County.
