Timothy Robinson
May 22, 1953 — July 28, 2024
Timothy L. Robinson, also known as Tim or TR, age 71 of Des Moines, IA passed away at home on Sunday, July 28th.
Tim was born in Reinbeck, Iowa on May 22, 1953, where he spent his entire childhood. He studied at the University of Northern Iowa and started his career of teaching, which was his passion for 32 years. Tim loved teaching his students English and Spanish at Diagonal, Baxter and SWCC throughout the years.
In 1989 Prairie Meadows opened and lucky for them, Tim was one of the very first employees. Little did they know, he would stay until 2020 when he retired. TR met lifelong friends and was a mentor to many at Prairie Meadows.
He was always there to cheer on and support the successes of people in his life, and you’d hear all about it in his yearly Christmas card. Tim lived life to the fullest and took any chance he could to travel with family and friends. As long as he had his nose in a book, the Golden Girls on TV or was in the presence of chatty company, he was happy.
Friends and family will miss our sharply dressed host with the most, as Tim was the best at getting everyone together. Anytime you went to Tim’s or an event that he was at, you knew you were going to be fed well, learn new facts and be entertained with his unforgettable laugh.
Tim passed away unexpectedly with many plans organized and instructions left to give. The world will never be the same, as he was truly one of a kind.
Tim is survived by his brother Larry Robinson, sisters Jackie Birdsell and Terry (Scott) Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Victoria Robinson, and sister Judy Hicks.
They say as you grow up that you can choose your family, and many people chose to have Tim as part of their family. He loved his family, but the amount of chosen family that Tim was blessed with in his life shows the value and happiness that Tim brought to those around him.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Reinbeck Public Library in loving memory of Tim Robinson.

My deepest condolences to all of Tim's family and friends. Tim will certainly be missed by us all.
Tim was the one who would usually organize our Reinbeck class of 1972 reunions. Tim had everyone's mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. He always had a smile, was kind to everyone, could talk to anyone and make others smile. His Christmas letter was one I always looked forward to receiving as he recapped his year of travels, books he read, movies he saw, restaurants and the people he went out for meals with and all the other adventures he went on. There were times Tim would randomly send a picture to me of a place he'd been to and I appreciated his thoughtfulness. No one can replace Tim that's for sure. He was a great classmate and friend. Tim had mentioned to me recently that he wanted to gather some classmates to meet at Morris Inn for a meal and visit once Morris Inn started having lunches again. I hope some of us will still do that in honor of Tim when the time comes.
Fly high Tim and enjoy your adventures in heaven.

Tim, I know you have already started that Christmas letter, 2024, and I will be expecting someone to please finish it and send it out! You have undoubtedly read numerous great books thus far into the year, and I'm sure you have had many, many great adventures to tell us about. The adventure you are on right now though will not be written, sadly. To say I was shocked to hear of your passing is an understatement. You, my 1972 classmate and friend, will be greatly missed. You brought so much JOY to our reunions, and visits. I have to say it has been a blessing to know you. Your smile and laugh were so contageous! I will remember you fondly. Safe travels to you!

I am so heart broken. There are no words to describe the amount of love I hold in my heart for TR. He has seen each one of my four children from birth through adults. He has been by my side for my parent's funerals, my children's weddings, the birth of my grandbabies, graduations, holidays, birthdays, and most recently performed my wedding ceremony to my new husband. A memory I will cherish forever. I am so blessed to have Tim in my life and know things will never be the same. Fly high my friend and until we meet again! Cheers!
