Thomas “Tom” Wayne Gilbert, 75, of Ankeny passed away at Iowa Methodist Hospital on October 16, 2024.  He was born on January 21, 1949 in Beatrice, NE to Norman and Betty (Barker) Gilbert.  
 
Tom graduated in 1967 from Beatrice High School, continued his education and graduated from Peru State College. Tom worked at Store Kraft and Marshal’s Truck Stop in Beatrice. In March of 1971 he started his career with Northern Natural Gas where he started as a Utility repair man and worked his way up to Regional Director and retiring 35 years later in December 2006.  

Tom had many accomplishments, one of which was on June 18, 1971 when he married the love of his life Diana (Brown) Gilbert, they were married for more than 53 years. Tom also was a past president of Noon Sertoma Club. As a young boy he joined boy scouts and became an eagle scout. On March 15th 2009 Tom made his first hole in one while golfing with his friend Jeff.  

 Tom was an avid hunter, fisherman and boating was his biggest passion. In his later years FOX NEWS, Westerns and all TV shows were his passions. For over 30 years Tom and his family enjoyed their yearly trips to Lake of the Ozarks. Before and after retirement Tom and Diana enjoyed traveling. Some of their favorite trips were to the islands of Jamaica, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Cancun and Ixtapa. Also, they enjoyed the Florida Keys, Grand Canyon and Nashville. Though Tom and his family moved to Perryton, TX from Beatrice, NE in 1991, they still remained Nebraska Cornhuskers Fans!

Tom was a wonderful husband, father, and father-in-law. Most of all grandpa, and pop pop Tom, he loved his grandchildren who could do NO wrong in his eyes.   
  
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diana; Son Matthew (Tricia) Gilbert of Ankeny Ia., Daughter Michelle (Jon) Robeson of Urbandale Ia., Grandchildren Conor Connolly (25), Ciaran Connolly (25), Carter Gilbert (13), Karlee Gilbert (10) of Ankeny Ia., Bennett Robeson (3) of Urbandale Ia., brother Dale (Maria) Gilbert of Houston Tx., sister Laurie (Rod) Weiner of Omaha Ne., nephews Eric (Fatima) Gilbert of Houston Tx., Joshua (Annie) Weiner of Omaha Ne., Cory Weiner of Lincoln Ne., niece Dayna Gilbert of Houston Tx., Mother-in-law Dorothy Brown of Ankeny Ia. 

Proceeded in death by his parents Norman and Betty Gilbert, father-in-law Frank Brown, and sister-in-law Joyce Gilbert.  
 
Family will greet guests on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.  A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., follow visitation at the funeral home.
