Susan "Susie" Moffitt
November 17, 1937 — November 14, 2024
Susan (Susie) Moffitt, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Susie was born on November 17, 1937 to Orville and Alice (Davidson) Lowe. Susie was a life long resident of Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Waukee High School and graduated in 1955. She then went on to attend Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. David and Susie were married on January 24, 1959, and they enjoyed many years of traveling the world together and spending time with their countless friends.
Susie was a proud PEO member for many years. She also worked at Town and Country clothing store, where if you asked her what she did for a living, she would reply “I dress fancy people in fancy clothes!” Needless to say, Susie was always a fashionista herself, and never leaving the house without some sparkle on.
Susie raised her family with strong faith at Park Ave Christian Church and Wakonda Christian Church, later on in life attending Lutheran Church of Hope. She could always be found in the church choir or playing the piano. Above all else, was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an avid Iowa Cubs fan being named 1990 Iowa Cubs Fan Of The Year. Many years were spent in her seats at Sec Taylor Stadium and Principal Park cheering on her beloved Cubbies.
Susie loved baking her famous chocolate cakes. She even bragged about selling one at an auction for $500. She loved sending cards and Christmas letters to any and everyone she ever met. Susie never knew a stranger and for this the world is a brighter and happier place with her loudly cheering from the sidelines. Susie’s “WHOO! WHOO! WHOO!” was always recognizable and will be deeply missed by all the people that love her.
Susie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, David; children, Beth Lankford, Kelly and Bill (Janet); grandchildren, Amber (John), Austin (Kelsey), Sara (Brett), C.D., Nick and D.J.; great grandchildren, Alyssa (Liam), Avery, Nash and Lola; sister, Shirley Cromer; sister-in-law, Dee (Glenn) Keller; several nieces and nephews; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Jones, former son-in-law Jim Lankford; and hundreds of beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Orville and Alice Lowe; step-mother, Jane Lowe; sister-in-law, Judith Forbes and niece, Kathy Forbes.
Family will be greeting friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Susie will be laid to rest at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in loving memory of Susie.

David and family, our sympathy at your loss. Susie was one of a kind and we were all richer for having known her. I have only known her for 15 years, but as you put it, she never met a stranger. Her whoo, whoo, whoo at events will always be remembered. We will see you Friday. Bill and Linda
