Steven John Nation
November 27, 1955 — December 16, 2024
Steven John Nation, 69, passed away December 16, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.
Steve was born November 27, 1955, in Des Moines to Glenn and Joyce (Armintrout) Nation. He worked in construction all of his adult life, working for Steven’s Drywall in Des Moines for 34 years. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He was very active with South Des Moines Girls Softball, coaching for 15+ years. He was active with The Boy Scouts of America and the proud father of an Eagle Scout. He was a constant presence with the Northside football program as well as track and field. He was a proud Southsider and a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1973. Steve spent many years bowling with the Saturday Night Fun Bunch at Fair Lanes Bowling Alley. Once he retired, he enjoyed woodworking, his dogs; Penny, Maggie and Eli, watching his grandkids soccer, football, and wrestling. Steve’s answer to everything was “rub some dirt on it and walk it off.”
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Kellie; children, Stephanie Kidder, Abbey Norton, Jonathan (Tia) Nation, Megan Churchill, Heather Churchill, Andy (Tina) Overton, Brandon (Amber) Overton, Brian (Vanessa) Heenan, and Ashley (Andrew) Manss; parents, Glenn and Joyce Nation; brother, Doug Nation; sisters, Denise (Mike) Hoopes, Cyndee (Craig) Robb and Dianne (Dave) James; 23 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

You will be deeply missed. We had a great friend in you Steve from hanging out and scooping the loop to playing Softball. And for being my big Brother. Denny and I probably wouldn't have married if it wasn't for you getting us together. Rest in peace. Theresa and Denny Lorey
