Sharon Kay Vasquez

Sharon Kay Vasquez passed away on October 9, 2023 at Azria Health Park Place in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sharon was born on February 17, 1940 to Ferme (LaBounty) and Russell Allen. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa graduating form North High School, then attending The American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines. She worked several clerical jobs and then for the United States Postal Service. On August 25, 1962, she married Salvador Vasquez Jr., and they had four children. They were married 56 years before his death in 2018.

Sharon enjoyed reading, movies, playing cards, and dancing. She and her husband enjoyed their travels to Mexico and Panama to visit family.

Sharon is survived by her two sons, Gary Vasquez of Des Moines, Iowa and Paul Vasquez of Wichita, Kansas; daughter Leigh Ellen (Paul) Russell of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Raymond (Katie) Vasquez of Irvine, Texas, Joseph Vasquez of Waukee, Iowa, Michael Russell of Ankeny, Iowa and Emily (Jason) Noble of Des Moines, Iowa; great grandchildren, Evie and Benjamin as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Salvador; daughter, Elayn and brothers, Richard and Robert Allen.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Private inurnment will be at a later time at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, where Sharon will be laid to rest alongside of her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to her family. The family will be donating all contributions to Azria Health Park Place Activities Department, in loving memory of Sharon.
