Ruth Anne Thomas

Ruth Anne Thomas passed away peacefully from this earth to be with our Lord on November 1, 2023 in her home in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ruth Anne was born to Frank Adair and Isis Mariam (Knotts) Wright on December 14, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa. Ruth Anne married Dale Eugene Thomas on November 14, 1947 and from this union she raised two boys, Mark Adair Thomas and David Alan Thomas.

Ruth Anne grew up on the northeast side of Des Moines in Highland Park and graduated North High School in May of 1943. She enjoyed crocheting and she made special afghans for her grandchildren designed with crocheted pictures of things they loved. She was persistent as evidenced by a Little Drummer Boy quilt that she started when son Mark was 5 and completed for his high school graduation. She also loved gardening and tinkered in her yard until her early 90’s. She was a voracious reader until her eyes made it difficult however she continued to do word search and jigsaw puzzles. She loved her church and its various activities, her friends and was especially devoted to her beloved family. She valued traditions and always kept family close. Her strong health offered opportunities for babysitting her young grandchildren, great grandchildren and caring for children in her church’s nursery. She very much enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and hosted regular meals at her home. Ruth Anne loved Jesus, was a devout Christian and started each day with her Bible readings.

Left to honor Ruth Anne’s memories are her sons Mark (Kimberly) Thomas and David (Patricia)Thomas, grandchildren, Jennifer Greear, David Thomas Jr, Matthew (Jennifer) Thomas, Benjamin (Tanner) Thomas, Samuel Thomas, great grandchildren, Carter Greear, David Thomas III, Alyssa Thomas, Evan Thomas, Bodhi Thomas, Kai Thomas, Radley Thomas, step grandchildren, Anthony (Jamie) Burns, Jacob (Jennifer) Burns and Jessica (Joshua) Burns, step great grandchildren, Skyler (Trinh) Glick, Abbi Burns, Vivian Burns, Micah Burns, Morrison Burns, Jacob Burns, Theo Burns, step great great grandson, Axel Glick, nephews Kevin (Barbara) Doyle, Danny (David) Doyle and niece, Kathleen Doyle.
Ruth Anne was preceded in death by her father, mother and sister, Mary Lee Doyle, brother-in-law, John Doyle and nephew Timothy Doyle.

Services will be held Tuesday November 14, 2023 at The Mission Church in Urbandale Iowa. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., with a celebration of life service immediately following. A luncheon will be served at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa.
