Ruth Bartelt

Ruth Anna Bartelt, 85, passed away on June 26, 2024 at The Bridges at Ankeny. She was born on November 30, 1938 in Des Moines to Paul and Violet (Eshelman) Shafer.

Ruth graduated from Saydel High School. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking, and her love for all flowers, especially - orchids and carnations. She retired from Hy Vee after 20 years as a wonderful cake decorator. Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Leslie Berry; sons, Michael Bartelt and Kelly Bartelt; grandchildren, Alex (Bre) Berry, Sean Berry, Amanda (Scott) Hoffman, Blake (Angelina), Bartelt, Walker (Marissa) Bartelt and Kasi Bartelt (Creed Duncan); great grandchildren, Kaylee, Emma, Tristan, Malakai, Tate, Wilder, Ruthie and Vince; sisters-in-law, Deloris (Lowell) Hill and Mary (Vince) Whitcomb.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Paul Shafer and David Shafer; sister, Alice Hollingsworth and sister-in-law, Carol Bartelt.

Family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines.
