Ronald Young

Ronald Young, 78, of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Iowa Veteran's Home.

He was born August 28, 1946, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Norma and Raymond Young. Ron’s family moved to Des Moines where he graduated from Lincoln High School. He joined the Marines and served in Vietnam. He also served in the Army Reserves. Ron retired after working as a probation parole officer for many years.

Ron enjoyed many things in his free-time. He was an avid runner and frequent participant in the Dam to Dam. He loved listening to classic country music. He also loved attending sports events especially for his kids.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sheryl Nutter; and niece, Brandi Gracey.

He is survived by his children, Amanda Young and Nick (Jamie) Young; grandchildren, Emileah, Eden, and Leo; great nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Julian, and Ariel; and many friends and family.

Family will be greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, also at the funeral home. Ron will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for the care and love they gave Ron from 2011 to his passing.
