Robert "Bobby" Magnani, 36, passed away at home in his sleep on November 10, 2024. His heart simply stopped working due to an unknown heart condition. Per Bobby's wishes, his body has been cremated.

Bobby was born on July 13, 1988, to Lisa (Ogden) Johnson and Bob Magnani in Des Moines.

After graduating high school, Bobby went on to complete Job Corps Computer Technology program, and then two semesters of college in New Jersey. He loved riding the trains to and from New York City on the weekends. Bobby had always dreamed of going to NYC, and he fell in love with everything about the city. After that, he graduated from Wyotech in Daytona, Florida, as a certified Harley Davidson mechanic and technician. Bobby changed occupations several times throughout his life, always finding something more enjoyable along the way. Des Moines was Bobby's “home” and he loved the Southside of Des Moines so much that he had a panoramic view of the city skyline tattooed on his back.

Bobby played basketball at Lincoln High School and his love of the game lasted his lifetime. He played basketball with a friend just a week before his death. Bobby also shared his love of basketball with his son, teaching Lorenzo when he was just a toddler. When Lorenzo fell in love with trains, Bobby went all out; building his son a Lionel train set that ran the length of the basement. It’s a magical, winter wonderland of the Polar Express that “Renzo” will always have to remember better times with his dad.

Over the years, Bobby struggled with alcoholism. It ruined many of his relationships with family and friends. The loss of those relationships haunted him daily. Daily. He was ashamed and emotionally devastated with his behavior and the resulting loneliness, but Bobby just could not overcome the pull of alcohol. Please forgive him. No one paid a higher price than Bobby for his addiction.

Bobby is survived by his son, Lorenzo; his mother, Lisa; his brothers, Joey Ogden and Corey Johnson; his sisters, Brittney Clemons, Emily Spivey, and Mallory Johnson; his grandmothers, Becky Hein, Donna Ogden, and Mary Magnani; his aunts, Wendy Berg, Kristen (Lance) Rhodes, Tanya Ogden, April Stephens, and Tamara Magnani; his uncles, Terry Magnani, Larry Magnani, and Mark Ogden (who was more to Bobby than an uncle); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Bob Magnani; his sister, Katie Johnson; his grandfathers, Bob Ogden and Elmo Magnani; his uncles, Michael Ogden and Randy Magnani; his favorite (and orneriest) aunt, Angie Ogden; his great-grandparents; and his dog, Dallas.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on November, 24, 2024, at the Croatian Slavic Center; 6575 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines.
