Richard Lee Robertson – “Dickie Lee” - 86, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away on June 25, 2024

Dickie Lee was born in Whittenburg, Texas on November 8, 1937 to Charley and Myrtle Robertson. He grew up on a cattle ranch in Sweetwater, Texas riding horses and rounding up cattle. He attended catholic boarding school in Oklahoma. Then middle school in Phillips, Texas, then moved to West Des Moines, Iowa his sophomore year. He graduated from Valley High School where he met and married Darlene (Bolte) Robertson, with whom they had 5 children. Dickie Lee enlisted in the US Army at Camp Chaffee Arkansas. He was sent to Vicenza, Italy to work and serve as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist.

Dickie Lee’s passion for construction led him into home remolding. He later met and married Carolyn Berk. Dickie Lee later opened his own remolding business – Customs Design Remodelers. Dickie Lee loved to fish with his friends and sons in Canada. He loved to travel, ride horses and camp. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Long Horns and dancing. Dickie Lee loved the Waveland Café and his darling ladies and Stoney the owner. His passion was his 67 Fast Back Mustang, better known as “My Tang”. He rebuilt it with his best friend Rich Johnson. In which they won many cars shows. Dickie Lee was a very giving, loving man, father, son husband, grandfather and friend.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Charley and Myrtle Robertson; brother JC Robertson; sisters, Claudine Turner and Mary Payton; ex-wife, Darlene Robertson; daughter, Jodie Bergman (Robertson); son, Danny Robertson and wife Carolyn Berk.

Dickie Lee is survived by his son, Rick Robertson; daughter, Shelly Klein (Robertson); son, David Robertson; step son, Marty Berk; grandchildren, Cody James, Chase James, Aaron Bain, Jordan and Devin Neibarger, Brandie (Richard Rinard) Robertson and Alex and Kelsey Robertson; great great grandchildren, Kayden, Peyten and Asher Robertson, Wyatt and Christopher Rinard; sister-in-law, Midge Baker; buddy, Randy Miller; his dog Chewy along with many nieces and nephews.

Family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 9:00 -10:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
