Richard "Dick" Everett Holland

Richard “Dick” Everett Holland, age 79, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at his home. He was born February 15, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa to Everett and Leone Holland. He graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School in 1962.

Dick was employed with Swift Packing Company for several years before becoming a self-employed house painter.

On July 10, 1965, he married Carolyn Robertson. They resided in Des Moines, Iowa for the first eight years of their marriage and then built a home on the property where he was born and raised near Berwick, Iowa.

Dick’s hobbies include gardening, caring for his lawn and small woodworking projects. He enjoyed annual Canadian fishing trips with family, trips to Las Vegas and attending the horse races with family and friends. He was a Minnesota Vikings football fan and enjoyed watching Nascar with his family. He had a love of nature, enjoyed feeding and watching wildlife. Most of all he adored his children and cherished his grandchildren and loved it when they came to visit.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters Christine (Douglas) Stefani and Cheryl Moon; granddaughters Sarah (Tyler) Mairet and Elizabeth (Christopher) Hicks; sister Helen Van Scoyk; brother Ed (Gloria) Holland; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Leone Holland; sister, Mary Tavenner.

Dick was dearly loved by his family. We would like to give a special thank you to Mike and Michele Van Scoyk for all the help they have given Dick and Carolyn.

Family will greet guests on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Following visitation there will be a service at 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
