Richard Raymond Fry passed away peacefully on the evening of April 1, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Richard was born on October 17, 1946 to William and Betty Fry in Portsmouth, Virginia. Richard grew up in Saylor Township, graduating in 1966 from Saydel High School.

Richard has maintained many friendships over the years with his fellow classmates. Richard met the love of his life while in school and married Regina on December 21, 1968. To this marriage they had two children, Kim Shipley of Tama, Iowa and Brian (Amy Peitzman) Fry of Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

After high school Richard served in the Navy from 1966 thru 1970. He has always been proud of his service in the Navy and enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s Veteran Day activities at their schools. Richard was able to attend the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight with his son, Brian, in October of 2024 and enjoyed visiting the sites with his son by his side.

Richard loved hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and watching John Wayne movies. He was always ready for an activity watching his grandkids and great grandkids playing sports or having them visit him at home.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Regina; children, Kim and Brian; grandchildren, Heather, Tabitha, Betsy, Shelby, Kiera, Kayle, Kelsie and Cutler; along with numerous great grandchildren and brother, Dennis (Mary) Fry of Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet; infant sister at birth, Paulette; great granddaughter, Sabrina Hendershott and son-in-law, Mark Shipley.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.
