Richard T. Anderson
September 08, 1938 — February 25, 2025
Richard T. Anderson, age 86, passed away on February 25, 2025, at Mercy Hospital. He was born the son of Clifford and Emma (Morton) Anderson on September 8, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Richard graduated from East High School, class of 1956. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. After his honorable service, Richard pursued various careers throughout his life. He ultimately found his calling with the Des Moines Police Department, where he began his career as a patrolman in August of 1967. Richard’s dedication and hard work led him to the role of property supervisor in June of 1970, a position he held until his retirement.
Richard was a man of many passions. He loved watching sports, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing cards. He found joy in fishing, gardening, and traveling with his wife, Ethel. Above all, Richard treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Richard’s legacy of service, dedication, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Ethel Anderson, sons Kish Anderson, Keith Anderson (Donna), and Richard T. Anderson, Jr., (Natalie), eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Clifford Anderson, Jr. and Ronald Anderson.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Richard’s memory.

Ms. Ethel, Kish & family
I got a call from my sister, Sharon Brown, telling me about Mr. Richard. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I have not seen anyone for decades, but you have not been forgotten. In fact, Kish kept jumping into my mind for the past couple of weeks. Now I know why.
Also, looking online, between the pics and the obit, there is a section about the services. It says the funeral is February 5 instead of March 5. Hopefully this typo will be fixed.
