Ronald James Dwiere Obituary

Ronald James Dwiere, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away January 11, 2024, at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital. Ronald was born January 6, 1928, in Des Moines and was the son of Harlan J. and Florence (Moore) Dwiere. Ronald met the love of his life, Jo Ann Terrell, at Riverview Park while they were in high school. He was an East High School graduate.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948 on the USS Iowa and the USS Duluth. While on his Navy leaves, he and Jo Ann continued their romance; she often tells how handsome he was in his Navy uniform when he would visit her at Lincoln High School. Ronald and Jo Ann were married April 29, 1949.

Ronald retired from SuperValu warehouse in June 1989. He maintained friendships with many of his former co-workers. When Jo Ann retired, they spent many years as escorts on Senior Bus trips for Des Moines Parks and Recreation, a source of great fun for both of them.

Ronald was a sports enthusiast, always cheering on his favorite Iowa Hawkeyes, and was able to attend several Hawkeye football games and bowl games with his family. Most recently, he loved watching the Iowa Women’s basketball team and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Left to cherish all of the wonderful memories of his rich life include wife Jo Ann of 74 years; daughters Ronalee (Tom) Brackett of Plano, Texas, and Debra Moyer, Des Moines, Iowa. Grandchildren Nathan (Jennifer) Brackett of San Antonio Texas, Natalie (Donald) Kennedy of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Bryce Moyer, Des Moines, Iowa. Great grandchildren Jack and Lola Brackett; Parker, Ella and Hudson Kennedy.

Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved younger brother, Jack, and his mother to whom he was deeply devoted.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ramsey Village and the ED, Younker 8, and Palliative care teams at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital.

A celebration of Ronald’s life will be planned for a future date.
