Ralph “Dwayne” Munyon, 86, passed away at Trinity Center Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Dwayne was born September 11, 1937, son of Ralph and Beulah (Fry) Munyon of Grand River, Iowa. Dwayne served in the Air National Guard. He pursued a career in printing after graduating from Des Moines Technical High School at Meredith/RR Donnelly working his way up from a Pressman to Traffic Management when he retired. He was a member of the Transportation Club and served as deacon at Park Avenue Christian Church for many years.

Dwayne played on a slow pitch league, enjoyed bowling, cards, pool and dancing in his earlier years. He was always a huge sports enthusiast for football, baseball, basketball and golf. A loyal Hawkeye, Cardinal, and 49ers fan!

Dwayne married Judy Crivaro, his best friend, they had two children, Sheri Leech and Garth Munyon whom were both adopted. Besides Judy, he loved being outside doing yard work and fishing at the farm pond.

There were also many family vacations to the lakes in Minnesota and Canada. Family was everything, traveling to the west coast to see his sisters and their families was his favorite time of year along with the cribbage matches. He was most proud of his grandson Tyler who referred to him as “Pops”. He always loved hearing about all of Tyler’s activities. His warm smile, kind heart and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Beulah; wife, Judy; and his son, Garth. He is survived by his daughter, Sheri; #1 grandson, Tyler; sisters, Barbara Durham and Betty Olander; several nieces and nephews in California, Colorado, Iowa and Nebraska; as well as many extended relatives and dear friends.

The family will greet friends on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29th at 12:00 pm at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa or the Autism Society of Iowa in loving memory of Ralph.
