Phil had a unique gift for humor, always ready with a "bad dad joke" that somehow managed to make us all laugh.
He was not just a stepfather; he was a mentor and a friend who sparked my passion for history. His captivating storytelling made historical events come to life, especially when he spoke about figures like Julius Caesar. His enthusiasm was infectious, leaving me with an insatiable curiosity to delve deeper into the annals of history.
Even though life sometimes led us on separate paths as I grew older, reuniting with him was always a cherished moment. I deeply regret not reaching out more over the years, foolishly thinking there would always be more time.
One of my fondest memories is the countless hours we spent playing floor hockey in the basement when my brother and I were kids. He didn't mind the toll it took on his knees, which had already seen their share of wear and tear from his basketball days. He played with us because he knew it brought us joy.
He was a remarkable man, not just for his humor and knowledge but for the love and care he extended to me. I want to say to him, "I love you, and I will miss you." His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and bring smiles to our faces.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
