Paul Edward Bebensee, age 92, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Paul was born October 21,1932 to Harry and Christina Bebensee in Wiota, IA. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Paul worked with his dad on the family farm and was a barber for multiple years. He then worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years retiring in 1992. After retiring, Paul worked at the main branch of the Des Moines Public Library for 14 years finding tremendous joy working in the children’s section.

Paul belonged to the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 15 and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union and NARFE. He performed volunteer work for the Lodge as well as his church. Paul enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing, playing cribbage, following the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with his family.

Paul is survived by his wife, Donna (Overby), to whom he was married for 63 years. In addition, his children Diane (Barry) Bennett of Des Moines, IA and Paula (Roderick) DeAngelo of Altoona, IA and grandchildren Tyler (Savannah) Bennett, Nicholas (Emily) DeAngelo and Elaina DeAngelo as well as many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry LeRoy Bebensee and sister Elaine Tawzer.

Family will greet guests on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. A light reception will take place during the time of visitation. A funeral service will take place following visitation at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Paul will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Des Moines Public Library Foundation to support the children’s section of the main branch or to the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 15 Scholarship Fund.
