Patricia "Patty" Silverthorn

Patricia A. “Patty” Silverthorn, age 74, passed away on October 31, 2023.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

Patty’s main job when her children were young was being a stay-at-home mom. Later in life, she had been self-employed, as part owner of a few different business ventures; including a few years doing bookkeeping with Capital City Fruit and Nesbit Distributing. The last few years of Patty’s life, she was retired and spent her time with Kimmy doing anything from getting their nails done, watching the Cubs play, taking off and flying to Alaska to visit family, and going on road trips for more family visits as far away as Pennsylvania.

Patty is survived by her sister, Joanna Hughes; daughters, Terri (Jim) McClelland, Cindy (Marty) Goodrich, and Kimmy; son, Joe (Janette) Harris; grandchildren, Charlie, Jonathan, Maddie, Missy (Justin), Cassie (Brandon), Allie, Katie, and Cody; great-grandchildren, Lucas, James, Jackson, Jacob, and one on the way; along with many nieces and nephews.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Jean Gilliam; brother, Bob Gilliam; and sister, Christy Loyd and Connie Santee.

Patty loved life and was delighted in being surrounded by her family. Her house was always where everyone would gather for holidays, get-togethers, and for her homemade meals. When not planning the next family gathering or next road trip, she was at the ballfields watching her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren play or at home watching the Chicago Cubs with Kim – one of their favorite past times.
