Patricia "Pat" Caswell
September 07, 1944 — September 08, 2024
Patricia “Pat” Ann Caswell, 80, passed away peacefully in her Southside home on Sunday, September 8th – the day after her 80th birthday. She was born September 7, 1944, in Elma, Iowa the daughter of Marian and Thomas Sullivan. She was raised Catholic and her faith remained a very important part of her life.
Pat led a fun-filled, entrepreneurial life, especially in her young adult years when she claimed the title of youngest liquor license holder in the state and first female bar owner in Iowa. She was a frequent visitor at Prairie Meadows and various other casinos. Later her career shifted to real estate, where she was an accomplished realtor for more than four decades and even owned her own brokerage firm. Her clients became friends and she treated them like family.
Pat never met a stranger and she was always the life of the party. She loved gardening - yellow roses were her favorite, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs, lemon pie, feeding birds, her clowns, and good Italian food.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; the love of her life, Clyde “Brownie” Brown; and her beloved son, Jeff Caswell. Pat is survived by her sister, Janice Sullivan; the father of her three children, James Caswell; two daughters, Jolene Brown, (husband, Jim Brown) and Jeanne Rackers, (husband, Kent Rackers); grandson, Drew Brown; granddaughters, Amie Cockrum and Mandy McMahon; and five great-grandchildren and one due in January.

I opened my paper just now and Patty's picture took my breath away. I am ill and can not be at today's service to honor her.
Patty never met a stranger and we became friends in the early 70s. I enjoyed her friendship and trusted her with confidences. Then, she became a mentor to me when I joined Iowa Realty in the 90s. Our lives were connected for 50+ years and I will miss her.
Sending my sympathies to Jolene & Jeanne and your extended family.
