Norma Johnson

Norma Jean Johnson, 90, died Monday January 20, 2025 at Courtyard Estates at Hawthorne Crossing in Bondurant. She was born June 14, 1934 to Harold and Mabel Martin in Des Moines.

Jean graduated from Lincoln High School and was a member of Bethany Full Gospel Church, where she loved teaching Sunday School. She loved the Iowa State Fair and worked the ticket gate along with her husband. Jean loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she was younger she enjoyed sewing, quilting and genealogy.

Jean is survived by her sons, Rick (Denise) and Randy (Connie); daughter, Debbie (Walt) Russell; grandchildren, Beth (Chad) Marchant, Anna (Roland) Bedard, Trisha Tanney, Randi Lynn (Taylor) Malone, Brent Johnson, Joe (Megan) Russell and Holly (Joe) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Christian, Kathryn, Parker, Brooklyn, Maiya, Bailey, Reece, Riley, Regan, Jackson and Katie; brother-in-law, Jerry Murray and sister-in-law, Judy Martin; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert LaVerne Johnson in 2012; brother Robert Martin and sister, Marilyn Murray.

Family will greet guests on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Jean will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.
