Monte R. Cubit
December 02, 1950 — October 10, 2024
Monte R. Cubit, beloved husband of Kathleen Cubit, passed away on October 10, 2024.
Monte was born on December 2, 1950, to John and Regina Cubit in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He grew up in University Park and attended the University of Iowa and William Penn University. Monte worked as delivery driver for 25 years and during this time was recognized for many safe driving awards. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing from the foredeck of Kathleen and his houseboat on Lake Rathbun. If he wasn’t fishing, you could find Monte just sitting and listening to music while he would smoke a cigar. He enjoyed sitting outside, especially in the evenings, with his wife and the two of them discussing the enjoyments of retirement together. Monte always loved having a good conversation with others, whether it be about a good musical, an excellent movie, or even an elevating book. Above all the things, Monte’s absolute favorite to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his family with all of his heart and soul and in return, Monte was deeply loved and appreciated. Monte always wanted his family to do well and to always live happily. Anyone who was blessed to know Monte knows he was truly a wonderful and selfless person. He always went out of his way to help his family and friends. Monte will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
Monte is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cubit; his daughter, April; his sons, Daniel and Joseph; and his grandchildren, David, Sofia, and Isabella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Regina Cubit; his brothers, Les and Lannie; and his sister, Judith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held immediately following the Celebration of Life service until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

My deepest condolences to Monte's friends and family for their great loss. He was an absolutely amazing man, that I had a lot of respect for.
I worked with Monte at FedEx from 2001 until he left a few years ago. He and another guy (Randy Crum) were the two veteran drivers that kind of took my under their wing(s) and made me feel welcomed to the team. Monte was by far the smartest guy in the building. We had many philosophical debates/discussions over the years and I always came away with a new perspective and felt like I learned something.
I don't know how tall he was (guessing around 5'5"?) but he worked like a guy who was 7' tall. I was amazed when he trained me on how to deliver Valley West Mall. I didn't think this little man had that kind of work ethic/ability in him! That's not to say that I thought he was lazy. I was just amazed that a man his age and size could do that every single day. That mall was a grind!! You'd haul in 250 packages, walk who knows how far and pick up 250+ by the time you left! The truck was always full. 😄
I regret that I didn't get to see him and speak to him the last year or so he was there and I was sorry to hear that he had left. He was ALWAYS a very kind gentleman and had that great smile of his.
I will miss him and will absolutely cherish those many conversations we had over the years. Rest easy, Monte.

Monte was truly one of the kindest and most endearing people we have ever met. It was our great pleasure to call him friend. One of his many fine qualities was the genuine personal interest he took in people; his commitment to understanding who you were and where you came from made him special. The Brocker family wishes to extend our condolences to Kathy and the families.
