Des Moines, Iowa

Michael Benjamin Sandoval, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, after a year battling liver disease. On July 5, 1981, Michael was born to Daniel and Elizabeth (Balli) Nicholson, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in a neighborhood full of children who always ended up at his house for dinner – some of which ended up as lifelong friends. As a child, he loved to ride bikes and play basketball with his friends.

As an adult, Michael B loved going golfing with friends, and treated himself to 18 holes on his birthday every year. A lifelong bicyclist, Michael rode his bicycle as much as he could, and as far as he could. A lover of the outdoors, he could be found fishing with friends and his children, hiking around Saylorville Lake, and having cookouts for his family. Michael was a huge Hawkeye fan – he never missed a game, and was proud to have attended games at Kinnick Stadium. He enjoyed volunteering for the Blank Park Zoo and for North High’s (his alma mater) football games. He was a huge enjoyer of music – he was a huge fan of Selena, 311, and Tech N9ne. Mike’s greatest love was his friends and family – particularly his three children. Only this summer, he started a YouTube channel with his son Isaac, showing some of the things they loved doing together.

Michael B is survived by his children, Roman, Malorie, and Isaac, his mother, Elizabeth Nicholson. His siblings Naima (Betsy) Lovejoy, Matthew (Ingrid) Sandoval, Lon (Maya) Bromolson, and Alicia (Dylan) Thorson. Nieces Juniper and Clementine Bromolson. The mother of his children Jessica (Darren) Flynn, and Brandi and Shelby Bales. Numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.

Michael B is preceded in death by his father, Danny Nicholson, Grandparents Lupe and Gilberto Balli, Lorenzo and Beatriz Sandoval, Rose and Dean Nicholson, and his aunt Alice Balli.
