Matthew Gassmann
February 13, 1980 — October 28, 2023
Matthew Charles Gassmann passed away on October 28, 2023, from complications of his lifelong struggle with alcoholism. Matt was born in Des Moines on February 13, 1980, to Chuck & Ruth Gassmann.
Matt graduated from Ankeny High School in 1999, he went on to attend DMACC and Iowa State University where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Matt was a bright, funny, kind and caring person who always put others ahead of himself. Matt loved movies and music and his laughter would fill the room. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake, but most importantly he loved his family and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Matt is survived by his parents, Chuck and Ruth; siblings, Jason (Teri Sue) Gassmann and Katie (Matt) Mahler; nieces and nephews, Taylor, Tessah, Bennett, Everett and Mari and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving family friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Clotilda “Tillie” McQuillen and Clarence and Charity Gassmann; great aunt and uncle, Walter and Cleo Steger; aunts Christa Nelson and Kathy McQuillen and cousins Pat Hannan and Ben Steger.
Family will greet friends on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., at the church. There will be a visitation at the church prior to services from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
Family will be present at 9:30.
