Mary Jane Houge

Mary Jane Houge, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed peacefully on January 24, 2024.

Mary Jane was born March 26, 1933, to Anthony and Rose (Mortellaro) Chicchelly. After graduation from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, she enjoyed 71 years of marriage with Clifford Houge and together had five children. Mary Jane’s life centered around a welcoming home with interests in decorating, travel and devotion to the Catholic parishes of St. Anthony and Christ the King. She enjoyed a later career of 13 years at CDS in Des Moines, and cherished ongoing alumnae lunches with high school classmates.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband Clifford and children: Patricia Kasner, John Houge, Richard (Jodi) Houge, Timothy (Elizabeth) Houge, and Elizabeth (Josh) Hulbert; seven grandchildren: Joel Richards, Emilee (Joseph) Paroubek, Kirsten (Joseph) Uphaus, Anthony (Megan) Houge, Samuel Houge, Ivy Hulbert, and Oliver Hulbert; eight great-grandchildren, siblings: Philip Chicchelly, Lawrence (Beverly) Chicchelly, and Barbara (Paul) Iaria; brother-in-law Wayne Witt and such loving nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by parents Anthony and Rose Chicchelly and sister Celesta Witt.
