Lyle L. Watts
February 13, 1932 — June 18, 2024
Lyle Watts was born in Barnes City, Iowa on February 13, 1932. He passed away at the age of 92 in his home on June 18, 2024, of natural causes.
Lyle was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War and then returned to farming after his time in the service. He moved to Des Moines in 1957 to attend AIB college. Immediately after graduation from AIB he began working as a bookkeeper for Newman Construction Company. A few years later he became a State Farm agent where he worked for 35 years.
Lyle coached South Des Moines Little League baseball for several years. He was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and loved to golf, but his true love was country music and loved country dancing.
He is survived by his son, Steve Watts of Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ryan (Christy) Watts of Norwalk, Iowa, Bryan (Mellisa) Watts of Norwalk, Iowa, Amber (Chris) Rardin of Russell, Iowa, Brenda Lyons of Des Moines, Iowa, Mica Warren Ballard of Des Moines, Iowa, Brandy Greubel Probasco of Des Moines, Iowa, and James Greubel of Des Moines, Iowa; his fifteen great-grandchildren; and his six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sidney (Watts) Greubel and great-grandson, Matthew Blackford.
Lyle will be deeply missed by his family and his many, many friends.
Family will be greetings friends on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral service will be held following the visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Avon Cemetery in Des Moines.
