Linda Marie Westlund

Linda Marie Westlund, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Genesis Senior Living Center in Des Moines, Iowa, while under the care of Suncrest Hospice.

Linda was born July 22, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa to George Warren Westlund and Alice Maurine Westlund Kaupp.

After graduating from North High School in Des Moines in 1964, Linda attended the University of Minnesota where she attained an Associate Degree of Arts in 1968 at the General College. Linda worked as a Dental Assistant in Forest City, Iowa, as well as in Stillwater, Minnesota. She always enjoyed helping others and had a smile for everyone. Linda was diagnosed with schizophrenia in her late teens. Later, Linda enjoyed working at Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa for many years.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her family regaling them with stories of her life as she had a brilliant memory that never forgot a detail. Linda loved fishing and being with her family at the cabin on Big Round Lake in Minnesota. She loved to collect postcards, and send and receive mail.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents George Warren Westlund and Alice Maurine Westlund Kaupp, and brother Warren “Bill” Westlund.

She is survived by her brother Robert (Nancy) Westlund and sister-in-law Breta Westlund, as well as her nieces and nephews Lynne Westlund, Warren (Janette) Westlund, John (Annie) Westlund, David (Mandy) Westlund, Betsy Westlund, Katie (Jason) Thrasher, Katherine (Sam) Worley, Sarah (Zach) Brummel, and many loving cousins, family, and friends.

Linda’s family will hold a celebration of life on Saturday April 20 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church in Des Moines, with a visitation beginning at 10:00am, followed by the funeral at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s name to Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa, or to Capitol Hill Lutheran Church.
