Louise Harbert, 98, passed away February 15, 2024 at Edgewater Nursing Facility in West Des Moines.

Louise was born August 18, 1925, in Ellenton, South Carolina to James and Thelma DeLoache. She graduated in 1942 from Estill High School in Estill, South Carolina. Louise met the love of her life in Charleston, South Carolina at a Bond Benefit Ballroom Dance during WWII. Six weeks later, on August 31, 1944, they were married and remained together for 56 years. The couple moved to the Des Moines area in 1947. She was a member of Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church. Louise loved to cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family and tending to her flower garden.

Louise is survived by her children, Susan Hilding, Donna (Barry) Ruehlen, Bill (Julie) Harbert and Elizabeth (Mark) Pollio; sister, Jean (Woody) Woods; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Harbert; son-in-law, John Hilding; sisters, Brinkley Lee and Juanita Moore; and her brother, Terry DeLoache.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by a time of food and fellowship celebrating Louise’s life. She will be laid to rest at Scotch Ridge Cemetery in Carlisle.
