Service Details

Linda Lea Greenwood, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Linda was born on April 16, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Loren and Mildred Dennis. She was blessed with two sisters, Nancy Handley and Sue Moede, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and laughter.
As a teenager, Linda met her soulmate, Jim Greenwood, at Fort Des Moines Open Bible Church. Their love story blossomed in the warmth of their faith, and they married at the same church on December 15, 1961. Linda and Jim shared 49 wonderful years together, raising their five children and creating a legacy of love and devotion.
Linda devoted many years to being a homemaker and childcare provider, nurturing her family and the children in her care. When her youngest son started school, Linda entered the workforce, embarking on a fulfilling career at Firstar Bank. She enjoyed her time there, forming lasting friendships and taking pride in her work. Later, Linda and Jim took a leap of faith and founded Greenwood Sewer Service with their son Michael, embracing a new adventure together.
Linda’s life was a tapestry woven with passions and talents. She served others with joy and grace, was known for her cherry pies, peanut butter cookies, and homemade pizza, and delighted in crocheting, traveling the world with her family, photography, singing, reading, reciting scripture, and shopping.
Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Linda’s beloved cats, Oreo and later Sugar, held a special place in her heart, bringing her comfort and companionship.
Linda was a devoted member of Fort Des Moines Open Bible Church, where her church family became her second family. Her faith and love for her community were a guiding light in her life.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Mildred Dennis; her in-laws, Elmer and Ethel Greenwood; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; her great-grandchild, Liam Greenwood (2015); and her beloved husband, Jim Greenwood (2011).
She is survived by her children: Mark (Penny) Greenwood, Michelle (Dan) Moede, Mindy (Michael) Harris, Michael (Michele) Greenwood, and Matthew (Kim) Greenwood; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 21 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Nancy (Gary) Handley and Sue (David) Moede; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Wesley Life Day Services, Harmony West Des Moines, and Arbor Springs Skilled and Hospice Services for their compassionate care of Linda. A special thank you goes to Linda’s daughter-in-law, Michele Greenwood for her unwavering dedication and sacrifices, allowing Linda to remain in her home for as long as possible.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A celebration of Linda’s life will take place on Saturday, January 11th at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Linda will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
