Lester "Ted" Theodore Floden, Jr.

April 18, 1935 — June 27, 2024

Service Details

Lester “Ted” Floden, Jr., 89, passed away on June 27 in Ames, Iowa. He was born in Des Moines on April 18, 1935, to Lester and Lenore Floden.

Ted was a loving family man, quick with a Norwegian joke and a warm smile. He had a great memory and would remember names, where, and when he met someone years later.

Ted and his late wife, Luella, were involved in round dancing for more than 50 years and they were inducted into the Iowa Caller Hall of Fame in 2008. During those years, they would sometimes spend two to three days a week at round and square dances and had more than a few dances at “Floden Hall”- the building behind their house. Ted would often share his dance talent on a whim, offering to teach anyone a quick dance.

For many years, he and Luella spent summers at their cabin at the Northeast gate of Yellowstone Park in Montana and after his retirement, from Armstrong/Pirelli Tire, he was able to spend more time there. He enjoyed sharing the park with any visitors and gave many tours that included stories from his Yellowstone experience.

Ted is survived by his much-loved children, Mike Floden of Des Moines, Kevin Floden (Heather Hall) of Ames and Marjorie (Bob) Graham of Indianola; daughter-in -law, Nancy Floden of Altoona; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Hood of Des Moines and his brother, Gary Floden of Austin, Texas.

Welcoming him into Heaven is his wife; his parents; his sister, Sandy; his daughter-in-law, Sue; and his son, Brian.

Visitation will be Monday, July 8, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Graveside service and burial will be held immediately following the visitation at St. Patrick’s Cemetery near Cumming.
