Lelia Mae Heck
December 03, 1938 — February 06, 2025
Lelia Mae Heck of Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully at home Feb. 6th 2025. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roger and Michael LaFary, and her mother and father, Harold and Betty (McMurray) LaFary of Des Moines, Iowa She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Halsey, two sons, David Marsh, and Gary Johnson, and her brother, Dale Lafary, grandchildren, Justus Flactiff, Jade Dawn, and Tyler Johnson.
Lelia lived a simple life but as a young woman her love and passion for music led her to some of the best moments of her life. If there was somebody she wanted to see she would see them. She had talked one of her brothers (Dale) into going with her to see Jean Vincent and the Blue Caps. They took a train from Des Moines and went all the way to Montana to see them. She met them and got autographs. And on the way home they had stopped in Clear Lake, IA to see the crash site where "the day the music died". It wasn't long after the crash had happened and there were still pieces of the crash around the area of impact. Another moment was a dream of so many who loved him and his music. She not only met the King of Rock N Roll, she danced with Elvis Presley. What a moment to never forget. She met many others and was also lifelong friends with Narvel Felts.
She brought a lot of joy to many of her kid’s friends. They would always chat with her sometimes for hours. She will be missed by many.
Mom I hope you are dancing with the Angels.
