Service Details

Larry Inman, 78, passed away June 7, 2024 at Unity Point Des Moines Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born September 25, 1945 in Bloomfield, Indiana to George and Gladys (Pearson) Inman. He had his own business, J & R Construction and was a member of Carpenters Local Union #106. Larry enjoyed fishing and camping. In his younger years, he loved camping at Lake Rathbun every weekend with extended family and friends. Larry also liked spending time at Prairie Meadows betting on the dogs. He was a self-proclaimed “master of dog betting”. Larry had his own method and calculation of what dogs to bet on using his red pen and notebook.

Recently Larry could be found on Facebook 24/7 as “Barbara Inman”. He commented on every post, became proficient with emojis and befriended everybody, as Barbara of course. If not on Facebook, he was on YouTube listening to country music with his “ear phones” aka headphones, that were held together with rubber bands and Kleenex. He recently acquired a cockatiel named CoCo. Larry would leave the room and CoCo would go crazy until he returned. He immediately loved this bird with his whole heart. Larry also loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa. He especially enjoyed spending time with his great-grandkids, twins Hazel and Grayson.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara; daughter, Lana Allison; son, Larry Inman, Jr.; grandchildren, Jestina (David) Simons, Amanda Galvan, Lindsey (Roberto) Duran, Kelly Allison and Larry (Amanda) Inman; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Terry; his beloved bird, CoCo; and a host of extended family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Gerald (Dorothy) Inman, Ronald Inman and George (Shirley) Inman, Jr. and his son-in-law, Rob Allison.

The family will greet friends Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Larry will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
