Karen Sue Robbins
October 09, 1941 — September 24, 2024
Karen Robbins, age 82, went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2024. She was born in LaPorte, IN on October 9, 1941 to LeRoy W and June M (Alexander) Koepke. She moved to Des Moines, IA in 1958 with her family and soon married George L Robbins and had 4 children.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked outside the home at different times, but mostly spent her time staying home and spending time with her family. She enjoyed family get-togethers and cooking large meals for her family and anyone else who came to visit. She was fascinated by hummingbirds and watching any kind of animal that came to feast on the food she left them on her patio. Loved stopping at coffee shops for her “always favorite” caramel latte before getting her hair or nails done - and just maybe a pastry as well. Most everyone she knew would have a memory of a time when she was so quiet for such a very long time that you thought she was paying no attention to the conversation, then bust out the funniest comment and make everyone laugh. Cherished memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by her four children: Nick Robbins of Urbandale, IA; Heather Anderson (Tim) of Waukee, IA; Noel Van Engen (Tim) of Sibley, IA; and Georgette Foster (Terry) of Des Moines, IA. Five grandchildren: Alisha Ostendorf (Danny); Ashley Peterson (Jake); Zach Van Engen; Kylie Robbins; Hailey Foster. Six Great Grandchildren: Beau, Brody and Braya Ostendorf; Kaden Van Engen, Leland and Malachi Peterson. One Sibling: Daniel Koepke of Fountain Hills, AZ.
She is preceded in death by: Her parents, June M. Gerstner and LeRoy W. Koepke. Her former husband: George L Robbins. Her siblings: Diana Chenowith, Judith Harlan and Kerry Koepke.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, with funeral service following at 10:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy, West Des Moines. Reception directly following, light lunch and beverages will be provided. Interment following reception held at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
