Kenneth Lee Barton

Kenneth Lee Barton (Kenny) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24th 2023 at Valley View Village in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kenny was born on June 8, 1940 to Clarence and Noveline Barton. He was a lifelong Eastsider. He graduated from Tech High School in 1959. Kenny worked in the printing industry his entire career. He began as a printer before he moved to sales and retired as Office Manager for VGC Corporation in December 1996.

Kenny married the love of his life, Shirley Johnston in April 1964. They built a house on the East side of Des Moines and spent their entire married life there.

Kenny was an avid fisherman who, at a very young age, enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota with his parents. Kenny continued his love of fishing throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing the Central Iowa lakes with family and friends. Kenny and Shirley enjoyed vacationing and fishing in northern Minnesota at Bear Island Lake. They also spent countless weekends with family at their cabin on Leisure Lake in Trenton MO.

He was an avid Hawkeye AND Cyclone fan and enjoyed following football and basketball.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley; daughter Teri (Mark) Williamson, son Rick (Sandy Beal); grandchildren Jake (Claire) Williamson, Karli (Clint) Quesinberry and great granddaughter Sloane Quesinberry.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Noveline Barton and his brother, Dickie.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to Noon on Monday, October 30, 2023, with a graveside service to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Village along with the staff of Hospice of the Midwest for their loving care of Kenny.
