Kay Ramus

Kay Frances Ramus, 87, passed away on April 8, 2025 while she was at Taylor House Hospice. Kay was born to William and Frances (Thorn) Ramus on February 1, 1938. She was born in Lu Verne, Iowa but considered herself a lifelong resident of Des Moines.

After graduation from Lincoln High School, Kay married Joseph DiSalvo. Though their marriage was fourteen years, they had Kimberly. Kay took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her love for her family resonated through the generations with her grandchildren calling her house their second home.

Kay loved traveling. She took many trips to Nashville that were encouraged by her love of classic country music. She traveled to California and Arizona, as well. The Iowa State Fair was a yearly must as well: she needed to get her footlong hot dog with sauerkraut and see what was going on the fairway. Kay’s grandchildren were very proud to have a wild grandma: basement parties and working at Rio’s in Des Moines. The opposite end of Wild Grandma Kay was her love for garage sales.

Kay was proceeded in death by her parents and her grandson Dustin Sanders.

Left to carry on Kay’s memory is daughter, Kimberly Sanders; grandchildren, Brandon (Christa) Sanders, Justin (Marcus) Sanders, and Cheyenne Sanders; great-grandchildren Layden and Emorie.
