Kathleen Ann Shipman Tollerud, 68, passed on peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on October 7, 2024.

She was born February 6, 1956 to William and Betty Shipman in Britt, Iowa. She graduated in 1974 from Corwith Wesley Community School. Kathy then attended Iowa Lakes Community College earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1976. She was a nurse at Lutheran Hospital from 1976 to 1978. Kathy then worked as a home childcare provider from 1978 to 1994. She loved and cared for each of the children like they were her own. Kathy then worked for the United States Postal Service from 1994 until she retired in 2018.

Kathy had a strong faith and was a member of Union Park United Methodist Church for 30+ years. Family was the most important thing to her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife. Kathy was a selfless woman up until the very last minutes of her life. She had a heart of gold and loved everyone she had ever met deeply. Kathy loved giving and receiving hugs. Kathy also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and bird watching.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; children, Jessica (Derek), Malyssa (Henry), Chad, and Toby; grandchildren, Kayle (Taylor), Alexis (Morgan), Haylie (Tyler), Reese, Kenna, and Zach; great grandchildren, Maverick, Marshall, and Van; her siblings, Sam (Rita), Jane (Tom), Randy, Marg (Tom), and Jeff (Ann); and several nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Helen, brother, Russ Shipman; nephew, Josh Shipman; brother-in-law, Jeff Krieps; and niece, Rachel Shipman.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Union Park United Methodist Church, 2305 E 12th Street in Des Moines. Family asks guests to wear purple or bright colors.
