Kathryn Joyce Sciachitano, 83, of Des Moines, IA. passed away on November 5, 2024, at Unity Point Hospital, in Des Moines, IA.
Kathy was born April 19, 1941, in Creston, IA, the oldest of 2 children born to Hazel Breese & Joseph Foley. Kathy attended Creston High School and then moved to Des Moines where she met her husband, Anthony (Tony) Joseph Sciachitano. They married on July 15, 1959.
Kathy worked for Preferred Risk Insurance (now Guide One) for more than 27 years as Manager of Office Services, retiring in 1997. She was a member of several work-related boards and past President of IPMA.
She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed golf and traveling, socializing with friends, as well as reading and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Diane Sciachitano, of Des Moines, IA., her son, Anthony Michael Sciachitano, of Des Moines, IA, grandson, Nicholas Anthony Haag (Kassi) of Kansas City, MO, brother and sister-in-law, John and Alyce Sciachitano, of Cedarburg, WI, sister-in-law, Catherine (Shirley) Gilkeson, of Johnston, IA, sister-in-law, Mieko Foley, aunt Virginia Shonehair, Altoona, IA, aunt, Lena Maroney, Pueblo, CO, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel, her father Joseph, her husband, Anthony, brother, Larry Foley, sister-in-law, Josephine Sciachitano, brother-in-law, Clarence Gilkeson, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2024 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dear Sheila, Tony and and everyone who loved Kathy.
My sincere condolences.. As everyone else did, I absolutely ADORED, Kathy. She was such a funny, kind-hearted, loving woman. She will be missed by not only me but by everyone who loved her. I can hear her laugh. I have quite a few photos.
Rest in paradise, dear Kathy. Say hello to Tony, mom dad and everyone else up in heaven who are with you.

Sheila and Tony, sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She was longtime good friend, we had many good times with her and your dad. Sorry because of illness, I will not be able to attend the service.
