Kathryn Louise O'Connor

Kathryn “Kathy” O’Connor, 69, passed away December 24, 2024 at the Carlisle Care Center.

Kathy was born December 1, 1955 in Des Moines to Ray and Elizabeth (Mills) Allen. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and a proud Eastsider. Kathy worked in sales. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of her plants. Kathy was very family oriented and especially close to her sisters, but her granddaughter McKenzie was her pride and joy.

Kathy is survived by her son, Jason (Patricia) Straub; granddaughter, McKenzie Straub; brother, David (Laurie) Allen; sister, Linda Huss; niece, Lindsey Allen; nephew, Bradley Allen; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Diana.

The family will greet friends Friday, January 10, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Kathy will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Kiya Koda Humane Society in Indianola or the Disabled American Veterans in loving memory of Kathy.
