Kathryn Frances Bussey, 88, passed away on December 11, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on May 18, 1936 to Albert M. and Minnie E. (Stevens) Sorensen in Sioux City, Iowa. She attended Central High School in Sioux City. On February 5, 1954 Kathryn married Ronald Mingo, the father of her five children, in Sioux City, Iowa. On December 12, 1958 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

Kathryn had several jobs over the years. She worked for the telephone company in Sioux City and she had a knack for sales, including selling Judy Lee jewelry, Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics. She also helped her second husband, Dewey, selling agricultural fertilizer for the business. Kathryn absolutely loved to cook and was excellent at it. She loved animals, especially her cat, Fiona; had a green thumb; was an avid reader and enjoyed talking to people about her knowledge of astrology.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Cynthia (Mark) Stevens of Des Moines, Gary "Otis" Mingo (Michelle) of Pacifica, CA, Victoria Mingo and Bonnie Mingo of Des Moines; grandchildren, Skye (Brad) Kress and Jeffrey Stevens of Des Moines; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cheryl Mingo; husband, Durward Bussey; brothers, Clarence “Flash” (Mary Jane) Sorensen, Edward (Shirley) Sorensen; sister, Bonnie Chicoine; half-brother Lawrence (Agnes) Gronberg and three infant siblings.

There are no services planned at this time, but there will be a Celebration of Life memorial in the Spring.
