Kathleen Cannon Cort
May 23, 1949 — April 05, 2024
Kathleen “Kay” Cannon Cort, 74, went home to be in the loving arms of the Lord Jesus Christ on April 5, 2024 at Unity Point Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center Oncology ward.
Kathy was born on May 23, 1949, in Des Moines to Charles Marion and Easter Violet (Mercer) Cannon. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1967.
Kathy was an incredible woman and child of God who gave unconditionally in many facets of her life, especially her love and giving. She was a mother who gave unconditional love to her son and granddaughters as well as all of those who came into her life for a reason or a season. Kathy was a domestic engineer/small business owner, who also was a proud patent holder which gave her a sense of accomplishment that she held dear. Most importantly, it was her heart’s desire for those she loved and cared for, as well as many strangers, to share Christ and his saving gospel. Kathy loved her worship and prayer time and found strength in her cherished and spirit-filled daily gospel music time.
Kathy is survived by her son, Todd Cort; her beautiful and cherished granddaughters, Ella Mae Cort and Emma Kay Cort; her brother, Charles Cannon; nieces, nephews, and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Easter Cannon; her sister Janice Rushing; and many other past family members, friends and loved ones.
The family will be greeting friends Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Kathy will be laid to rest at Hartford Cemetery in Hartford, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, it is Kathy's wish that memorial contributions be made to her adored granddaughters, Ella Mae and Emma Kay, to help them embark on God's calling for their young lives and endeavors. Contributions can be directed to their father, Todd Cort.

My Dearest Mother:
I’ll be the first, but certainly not the last, to try and put into words what your Love, Strength, Courage, Faith in Christ and unconditional Love truly meant. You gave me life! And you did all that you could to give it abundantly..without reservation or consideration for yourself. But more importantly, you lead me to Christ!! Your job is done now, Mom. Yours is the victory! You fought the good fight! You completed your course! I shall count the days until I will be worshipping with you for all eternity with Our Savior! Oh, what joy that shall be! All I can say is, thank you, Momma! I love you! ❤️✝️💯
