Katheryn Shafer

Katheryn Shafer, 97, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 1, 1927 to George and Cora Teas.

Kitty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. You could find her sitting on her front porch waving at the cars as they drove by. She loved sitting on her porch and watching the lawn mowers out front for Gary. Kitty loved coming down a couple of days before Thanksgiving to help Steve prepare and fix Thanksgiving dinner. Her and her husband loved taking their old truck to the car shows. They would go down by the Iowa State Fairgrounds, Good Guys show, and watch the cars as they left the show.

She was an amazing woman, and will be missed very much.

Kitty is survived by her children, Steve (Rhonda) Shafer, Gary Shafer and Cindy Campbell; son-in-law Frank (Patti) Regan; grandchildren, Tuawana, Robbie, Steve, Josh, Mindi, Jenny, Tony, Mike, Kim, Brian, adopted grandson, Jeff “Koolaid” Stevens; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Many extended family and beloved friends. Her grand furbabies, Teddy, Sassy, Midnight, Tiny and Maggie.

She is preceded in death by her children, Butch, Jim, Karen and Billy; brothers, Kenny, Joe and Bill; husbands, Junior and Daryl; her parents and son-in-law, Danny Campbell

Family will greet guests on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street S.W., Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa

Memorial contributions may be directed to family in loving memory of Kitty. The family will use these donations to purchase a headstone for Kitty.
