Service Details

Jonathan (Bud) Lister Jr., son of Jonathan (Doc) and Lois (Anderson) Lister was born November 8th, 1933, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School in 1952. In 1955, Bud joined the Army and served his country until 1957.

Bud was a hardworking, loyal man who began his career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1958, later advancing to oversee the data processing department until his retirement 38 years later.

Bud and his wife Betty (Donnelly) Lister were united in marriage March 12, 1960 in Marion Iowa, starting their family and ultimately settling down in Ankeny, Iowa.

Bud was an avid outdoorsman and could be found fishing or hunting or spending quality time with his faithful pup Freckles. Upon his retirement you would find him spending his summers in northern Minnesota fishing and camping and proudly passing along his love of the outdoors with his grandkids by hosting annual trips to Whaley’s resort for weeks of fishing and outdoor fun.

Being a Grandpa “Papa” was one of his greatest joys. Bud was a “Super Fan” for all his grandchildren and could be found in the crowd at any event his grandkids participated in.

At the age of 90, Bud peacefully passed away at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa on February 10, 2024. He spent his final days surrounded by his loving family. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Lister, and sisters Jody Lister (Gooch) and Margaret Lister (Atwood).
