John Otto Nieting

John Nieting, 78, of Bondurant, Iowa passed away on November 20, 2023.
John was born on July 11, 1945 in Pomeroy, Iowa. He graduated from Pomeroy High School. In 1965 he joined the Air Force and served in Okinawa until 1968.
John married Sherry Dorrel in 1974 and they started their married life in Manhattan, Kansas. He attended Kansas State and graduated with a Manufacturing Engineer degree in 1976. Upon graduation he was employed by John Deere Des Moines Works. There he worked for 25 years before retiring. During this time, they had two sons, Jeff and Adam. John loved attending all of their sporting and music events. Even though he only had 2 boys many kids found their way to the Nieting home as a place to hang out. John and Sherry loved their many adventures to Montana, Wyoming and baseball games.
John was always fixing things or coming up with clever ideas for projects in his shop. He always seemed to be able to fix about anything. He enjoyed fly fishing. He was a devoted husband, father and papa. He loved his family with all of his heart.
John is survived by his wife, Sherry; sons, Jeffrey (Cooper and Jace) and Adam (Pamela) (Isabella and Penelope), along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Esther Nieting; sisters, Joeline Coffman and Glenda Johnson and brother, Billy Nieting.
Family will greet guests on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post, 315 2nd Street NW, Bondurant, Iowa
