Janice Wanda Meyer
April 06, 1957 — June 11, 2024
Janice Wanda Meyer, 67, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Janice was born April 6, 1957, in El Paso, TX to Janice (Jennings) Sweeney and H. S. Sweeney. Sorrowfully, her mother died during childbirth. Janice’s father later married Ellen (Crossman) when Janice was four years old.
Janice’s greatest love was her family and friends. She treasured vacations to Longville, Minnesota and Evergreen Lodge where many memories were made with family, friends, and siblings. She loved the outdoors and nature. Janice was an excellent cook, and never made a small meal! She enjoyed gardening and canning food, and coordinating Hamilton’s Cinco de Mayo event every year. Janice was a beloved member of Hamilton’s Funeral Home staff for many years and made many lasting friendships through that connection.
Janice was employed in many capacities - as an administrative assistant, as a restaurant manager, over the road team driver with Steve for Crawford Trucking in Des Moines, and as a school bus driver - to name a few. She was very organized and great at managing people. She threw her heart and soul into whatever she did and was dedicated and hardworking. She always did her best and never quit. Janice enjoyed the children when she was a school bus driver and could turn even the rowdiest of them into polite young people.
Janice always cared for others - from her immediate family, to extended family and friends. She would help anyone in need and would give anyone a chance. She was direct, but loving, and left a mark wherever she went.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; son, Jeremy Arnett; daughter, Kristin (Roger) Secymore; special granddaughter, Natasha Geisinger-Arnett-Beard (Jeff); grandchildren, Alyssa, Carissa, and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Luna and Roman Beard; siblings, Jon (Chana) Sweeney, Jeanie Sweeney-Smith, Jim Sweeney, and Bradley Sweeney; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless close friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her dear mother-in-law, Jane Lorilee Bragg Meyer.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Memorial has been established, contributions may be directed to the family.

Callie & I were neighbors of Steve & Janice for about 2 years. We built a great friendship with them and enjoyed each others company. We would have dinners together, grill outs, and other fun activities with them. She would always try and help Callie with planting flowers and other outdoor stuff. She was a great person and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. RIP Momma Janice! Keep an eye on everyone from Heaven.
Love,
Callie & Zac

Loved knowing Janice even if it was just a few years when she attended our church, then Indianola Heights E. Free. She had such a great sense of humor. The memory of her pot belly pig story makes me smile to this day. Deep sympathy I send to the family.

We feel so blessed and deeply saddened at the same time with the news of our cousin Janice's passing. We were blessed that we spent the entire weekend before her passing with Janice, Steve, and grandson. She so much reminds me of my mother - Peggy and we shared the same Grandmother Wanda, who Janice was identical to, it is amazing. Steve, we are so blessed to finally get to meet you and know you and we are deeply saddened by your loss of such a loving wife and life companion. You are in our prayers, and we also want to express our condolences to Jeremy her son. I knew Jeremy as a small boy, and we know losing a mother leaves a hole in your heart, but she will always be with us in our thoughts and memory. We love you Janice, and we will meet again someday in Heavan as our Lord promises. Love the Colorado Bernard
