John Franklin, Sr., age 95, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the VA Hospital. He was born the son of Roy & Marie Franklin on June 12, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa.

John proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and US Airforce. He went to school to be a florist and worked for Lozier’s for many years. In his later years, John would sing at nursing homes and for funerals. He will be dearly missed by his family.

He is survived by his children John Franklin, Jr., Norma Gillium, Jack Franklin, and Pamela Brown, 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Betty Franklin.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Urn burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024, at Elm Grove Cemetery.
